Werewolves, Enlighten me.....any theories or beliefs?

In many cultures, werewolves are regarded as beings of evil. Some say that werewolves are created by a pact made by an individual with Satan himself. Other cultures state that the head of a family may have made the pact and the curse may be passed from generation to generation. Other cultures state that the werewolf curse is transferred by the BITE of a werewolf. What do you guys / gals think?

I am aware that there have been some fully documented cases of the mental condition "lycanthropy" in which the inflicted believes that he or she is a wolf or werewolf. Can anybody shed some light on these?

Would also love to see relevant pictures too

I have never really been a big werewolf fan but I did work one here in eastern KY. The guy called and truthfully I felt he was crazy but we had nothing to do so we went. Let's say I got scared at what crept up on his back porch. Not a werewolf, but a bear and a bear with a very unpleasant disposition!

I frickin' love werewolves lol.

Does anyone know where the silver bullet thing came about? I heard that this wasn't in the earlier folktales and was added later.

I thought the silver bullet was some kind of metaphor. :puzz:

"In different traditions, silver is thought to be the metal associated with the moon and with the human soul. It is likely that these associations have contributed to the legend of the silver bullet."

I don't think that really answered the question.

These are rather awesome ideas... Oh course I have known one person who insists they are werewolf but idk whether or not they are just putting on an act or not...

They do not realize how much things like this really do exist

werewolves are interesting. they are a realy common ledgend amongst the french. being from quebec i get the french canadian ledgends as well as the english. there are alot of theories, ledgends, and even some sightings here.

alot of ledgends say that if you are bitten by a werewolf you will become one, thats the glamorized hollywood version. there are other ways, some ledgends state that a witch can turn you into a werewolf and you become their familiar. if you eat the werefruit (not sure what it is, but its some sort of red flower. also called wolfbane and bloodflower) then its supposed to give you the powers of a wolf. after dabbling around with the powers of a wolf you eventualy transform into one. and then the main ledgend that refers to the silver bullet.

and a very famous legend states that a werewulf was actualy a servent of a vampire. vampires had complete control over the werewolves and summoned them as their familiars. the werewolves would do the vampires bidding. in other ledgends of the same time, if a vampire died, it would reserect as a werewolf. so they all share the same blood, and silver is fatal to a vampire, as well as a wulf.

Lyncans are refered to in many texts throughout history.. as to exactly what they are, I have no idea, but I believe they exist. Far to many reports of them to be figments of people's over active imaginations.
